Built to be passed down through generations, our furniture benefits from straightforward care. Natural signs of aging, like wood deepening in color and fabric softening, add to the value of these handmade heirlooms. As mishaps are part of life, we’ve put together simple tips to help your furniture stay beautiful for years, along with advice on managing accidental spills.

Wood is a natural material that responds to its surroundings. As we work primarily with reclaimed wood, each piece carries its own minor natural variations and unique details. These add character and charm without affecting the overall look or quality of your furniture.

We recommend keeping your furniture away from very humid or dry spots, like right beside air vents. Unless your piece is made for outdoor use, please avoid placing it outside. Sunlight, whether direct or indirect, can gently lighten or darken the wood over time.
To clean, use a soft cloth dampened with water. For tougher stains, a little mild soap on the cloth will help. Avoid all-purpose cleaners to preserve the wood’s finish. We suggest using felt pads and coasters under hard or wet objects to protect the surface.

We recommend fluffing cushions regularly to keep their shape and ensure even wear over time. Light vacuuming helps remove dust and keep fabrics looking fresh. If spills happen, gently blot with a clean, dry cloth as soon as possible. Most fabrics respond well to spot cleaning with mild soap and a little water – just be sure to use a white clean microfiber cloth, as coloured cloths can transfer dye.

For vintage textiles, go gently. Use a slightly damp cloth with mild soap only if necessary, and avoid harsh cleaners to help preserve the fabric’s unique texture and age. If you provided your own material through our Heirloom Textile offering, please follow the care instructions supplied for that fabric.

Some fabrics are more delicate and benefit from a little extra care. This includes unwashed linens, velvets, mohair, leather, suede and ultrasuede – we suggest avoiding standard spot cleaning or washing methods for these.

Velvet and mohair appreciate a gentle brush with a soft, horsehair-style brush now and then to keep their texture even and smooth.

Leather requires a gentle hand. For light marks, a soft cloth with mild soapy water usually does the trick – just take care not to over-wet the surface. To keep leather supple and minimise surface dryness or scuffs, a leather conditioner works well. Scratches can often be softened with a touch of your fingertips and followed by conditioner. If needed, a leather touch-up kit may help with colour correction – just take your time to match it well.
